World Backup Day is March 31st; don’t be an April Fool. Back up your data.
The Scary Statistics
Did you know that less than 7% of people save their data on a daily basis? 49 % perform a backup on a monthly basis, while a staggering 30% of people have never even backed up their data. Backing up your data will protect your life’s work when your storage device fails, 75% of data losses are due to Hardware malfunction (44%) and User error (32%).
So what is World Backup Day?
World Backup Day is a day for people to learn about the increasing role of data in our lives and the importance of regular backups. This independent initiative to raise awareness about backups and data preservation started out — like most good things on the internet – on reddit by a couple of concerned users. World Backup Day is here to make sure that people actually start backing up.
But data loss won’t happen to me…
People should take heed of the tales of outrageous data loss incidents.
- Pixar accidentally lost nearly 90% of the animated film Toy Story 2 to an errant computer command.
- A Spanish wedding photographer accidently deleted all the photos of a wedding he worked at, costing him €8,000.
- My friend Dave, upon not investing on a NAS device, lost his TV show collection, including every season of Game of Thrones, when his portable hard drive malfunctioned.
Data Backup made easy with Thecus!
Thecus focuses on all segments of the Network Attached Storage (NAS) market. A NAS device delivers users with their own private cloud, connected via a network, where information is privately stored and accessed by multiple devices at the same time. Multiple redundancy functions including RAID and Off-site replication are supported, to ensure complete data integrity. Thecus’ latest devices include 4K multimedia playback through PLEX, mobile access from any location, an in-built APP station, plus Scale-Out functionality that allows companies to expand their storage capacity without limit.
People now create and generate over 1.8 zettabytes of data per year. That’s a lot of data that we need to protect! This Friday, backup and secure all your favorite music and film collections, and treasured pictures of past summer vacations and weddings, also don’t forget your critical business files.
