An Eco-Friendly Way to Upgrade Your System

The climate crisis has been pushed to the forefront of the public eye. People are making environmentally-friendly changes in their everyday lives, changing from single-use plastics to more permanent and sustainable solutions, such as beeswax paper, re-usable cotton buds or cotton rounds. According to statista.com, the volume of household waste collected by local authorities in England was 23 million metric tonnes in the 2019/2020 financial year.

Why eco-friendly changes are necessary

The technological industry is under pressure to reduce waste and emissions. In 2016, the global greenhouse gas released was at an average of 49.4 tonnes CO2 eq. However, researchers have recently claimed that previous calculations of ICT’s share of global greenhouse emissions, […], likely fall short of the sector’s real climate impact as they only show a partial picture.

In the UK alone, Commercial and Industrial (C&I) waste accounted for almost a fifth (19%) of total waste generation in 2018, with electrical and electronic equipment accounting for just over 250,000 metric tonnes of waste. Nevertheless, the recycling rate of electrical and electronic waste did increase by nearly 25% to a total of 67% overall.

Although the UK has seen this rate continue to increase, drastic changes need to be made worldwide. Big-name companies such as Apple have started to lead the way, already promising to reduce emissions by 2025.

Why you should choose upgrades instead of a new system

Smaller companies looking to cut back can still do their part to help. Origin Storage is fully stocked with trustworthy parts that are fully compatible across multiple systems and won’t invalidate your OEM warranty. We work with many trusted and well-known names across the board, such as Dell, QSAN, DataLocker and Secure Data.

Your system might be going on the fritz; things aren’t running as they should; it’s slower than dial-up internet was. Nobody wants that, especially if you are trying to run a business or handle sensitive and confidential information. The first thought might be to replace it with the shinier, newer option that comes with a million bells and whistles. This could be an option, but Origin Storage can make the more eco-friendly way accessible.

How to know when to upgrade your system?

You will know the time is right when those pesky security updates stop popping up. This means that the manufacturers have stopped supplying you with the current updates. At this point, your computer is too much at risk to be safe to continue use. Certain manufacturers will push the new model onto you, but we recommend reviewing your options first. Here at Origin Storage, we’re happy to talk you through upgrade solutions that align with your business needs.

By choosing to upgrade your system, you are helping to reduce the tonnes of waste and greenhouse gases emitted in the manufacturing process of new electricals and saving yourself money by buying one or two parts instead of a whole new set-up. Choosing to upgrade your system comes with other benefits, too, such as prolonging the life of your system and running with better efficiency than ever.
